CLARICE: And I said, “What is wrong with you, Darling?” And she said, “Momma, I’ve done a terrible thing.” And I said, “What’s that? And she said, “I went over to the home where the girls were.” And we had some very troubled youth, you know, they were into cutting and all kinds of things. And they’d come into church and they’d give their testimony, “This week I didn’t cut myself. This week I didn’t have sex. This week I didn’t–”. And in our immaturity as leaders, you know, we’re trying to help these girls out—that those children that were listening that did not have a hell to heaven testimony, theirs was of the keeping power of God, thought, “What’s wrong with my life? You know, nobody’s interested in hearing about my dull life.” But we’re hearing about all the—just glory on the wrong stuff. It was just immaturity. It wasn’t impure; it was immature. And she said, “While I was at the house, one of the girls gave me a marijuana cigarette.” And she said—

KYLE: How old is she at this time?

CLARICE: She’s thirteen. She was thirteen. And she said, “I’m just so sorry that that happened.” Well we prayed about it and I thought we were safe. My experience with drugs and alcohol and wrong relationships was extremely limited and so I had no obvious hold that drugs have on people. And they say, you know, marijuana’s no big deal; it’s medicinal, blah, blah, blah. Well, my experience was, it was an opening door that led to twenty-seven years of unmitigated suffering.

KYLE: Twenty-seven years of your daughter’s life.

CLARICE: Twenty-seven years. She was bound by drugs, alcohol and wrong relationships and it was a sad, sad story. When a person is on heroin, when an individual is addicted—that their love, their life, their momma, their daddy, their brother, their sister, their children, it’s all drugs.

KYLE: It consumes them.

CLARICE: It consumes them. And the lifestyle, see they become addicted to the lifestyle, because you’re with people who just want to do drugs with you, you know? So there’s nobody that’s calling you to greatness. But it was a long journey and this is what the Lord said, “Set your affections on things which are above and not beneath.” So I continued to preach, pray and prophesy and I would say every time, every day, “All of my children are disciples, taught of the Lord with great peace.”

KYLE: So you started making these declarations over your children.

CLARICE: My mother taught me: speak the Word. When it doesn’t look right, then the fruit of your lips, create with God by calling things that are not to be the things that are. And then on occasions we would hear from Julie and the tragedy of she was in jail, she was here, she was there. And it looked hopeless. Twenty-seven years. Twenty-seven years of just saying—she would call and she would say, “Mom, you have no idea what I’ve done. Don’t pray for me.” And she ends up in prison and the judge, she was before the judge, and it was just such an incredible story. At one time, I was there with her, and she was before the judge, and they were calling her name out, it was in Florida, and they called her name out and I just stood up and I said, “Number 56729,” I said, “that’s mine.” I said, “Sunday is Mother’s Day, I need to take her home.”

KYLE: You’re standing up and telling the judge this?

CLARICE: The judge this—yeah. And the judge looks at me, he said—

KYLE: That’s pretty bold.
